Move Out Cleaning in Spokane: A Checklist to Get Your Deposit Back
Moving out is stressful enough without worrying about the final walkthrough. This checklist covers what landlords usually look at, a room by room plan, and how Spokane weather changes the job.
What landlords in Spokane usually check
Most walkthroughs focus on the same things: kitchen appliances, bathroom fixtures, floors, walls, and anything that was clean when you moved in. Your lease and any move in condition report are the best guide, so pull them out first and compare. Normal wear and tear is treated differently from dirt and damage under Washington law, but a clean unit makes that conversation much easier.
Kitchen
The kitchen gets the closest look.
- Clean inside the oven, racks, and the stovetop
- Empty, defrost if needed, and wipe the fridge and freezer
- Wipe cabinets and drawers inside and out
- Degrease the range hood and backsplash
- Scrub the sink and run the disposal
- Wipe the microwave inside and out
Bathrooms
Hard water spots and soap scum are the usual problems.
- Scrub the tub, shower, and grout
- Clean the toilet including the base and behind it
- Wipe mirrors, fixtures, and cabinets
- Clear hair from drains
- Mop the floor along the edges
Floors, walls, and windows
These cover the most area and show dirt fast once furniture is gone.
- Vacuum carpets and mop hard floors edge to edge
- Wipe baseboards and door frames
- Spot clean scuffs on walls, testing in a hidden spot first
- Clean light switches and outlet covers
- Wipe window sills and tracks
- Dust ceiling fans and light fixtures
Winter move tips for Spokane
Moving between November and March brings its own mess. Gravel, sand, and ice melt get tracked in on every trip, so put down a mat and plan to clean entry floors last. Ice melt can leave a white film on hard floors that needs a damp mop, not just a sweep. Check carpets near doors for salt staining, and leave time for wet floors to dry before the walkthrough.
Doing it yourself or hiring a cleaner
A small apartment can be a long day of work for one person. Larger homes, tight deadlines, or a unit that needs serious attention often make hiring help worth it. If you do request a quote, share the size, whether the home will be empty, the appliances you want cleaned inside, and your walkthrough date. You can start a move out cleaning request or go straight to the quote form.
